About

80 Years in the Making

Core Cider is an authentic farm venue and bistro offering exceptional artisan ciders and orchard events. For over 80 years we have cultivated our orchard and provided fun experiences for the whole family. Enjoy farm-to-table food from our Orchard Bistro, and cider tastings and events in our cellar door, Harvest Room. See where the magic happens in The Old Apple Shed, and unwind with a picnic on the green and pizzas from our Cider Garden bar. Experience the magnificence of this fourth generation, 40-acre property. We’re only 35 minutes from Perth city.

Four Generations

It was over 80 years ago, in 1939, when Giovanni-Battista Della Franca (aka Jack) planted his first apple tree. Soon he was making grappa and sharing his concoctions with the whole neighbourhood. Jack’s son Giancarlo Della Franca (aka Charlie) followed in his footsteps, planting a small vineyard in the 60s. Fast-forward 40 years, we were ready to take an ‘apple leaf’ out of the family’s book. Four generations after the first tree was planted, we’re still brewing cider for the whole community to enjoy.

The Orchard

Core Cider is situated on 40 acres of orchards. It’s magical in every season, with lush greenery and gorgeous blooms in spring, apples and bright colours in autumn, stone fruit varieties in summer, and citrus in winter. We use all our fruit in cider, wine, spirits, and jams and preserves. The grand deck of the Orchard Bistro and the Harvest Room have 180-degree views of the orchard and surrounding forest. It’s a beautiful view and a great way to spend the day.

Our Cider

Our ciders are grown and crafted onsite, making for an authentic orchard-to-glass cider experience. We produce over nine apple varieties. Our cider ranges from fruity sparklings to traditional ciders utilising methods such as basket pressing and barrel fermentation. Core’s brag board includes: ‘Champion Cider’ and ‘Champion Cidery’ (best producer) in the 2018 Perth Royal Cider Awards and two ‘Best in Class’ awards at the 2018 Australian Cider Awards. All Core’s ciders and wines are available to try and buy at our cellar door, Harvest Room.

Brag Book

Core Cider received a Gold Medal for Tourism Restaurants & Catering Services and a Silver Medal for Excellence in Food Tourism at the 2021 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards. Recently we were awarded Silver in the 2022 Australian Tourism Awards… thrilled to be recognised nationally!

Sustainability

Environmental sustainability is at the Core of what we do, to protect our people, our customers, and the very asset on which we depend – our beautiful orchards – ensuring that these will be around for future generations.

Although we don’t do this for the kudos (we do it because it’s the right thing to do), we’re stoked to have won the Kalamunda Chamber of Commerce Sustainability Award 2022 and the Switched on (Sustainable) Business Award 2023.

Here’s some of the cool stuff we do:

Energy saving
150 solar panels on the Apple Shed roof have saved ENERGY: 27.5 MWh, CO2 = 16,972kg, trees = 4629 over the past year alone (*measured via a Fronius Inverter App).

Water saving
A state-of-the-art Taylex water treatment system treats all wastewater from tourism and cider operations, then treated water is used on the orchard saving mega mega litres of water!

Education
Our tours and Fruit Picking experiences promote and educate sustainable practices and a ‘support local’ mentality.

Cool staff!
Staff feedback, encouragement and involvement regarding Core’s sustainability measures enables eco-conscious and (pretty cool!) staff.

WA to the Core!
‘WA to the Core’ is our ethos! Sourcing from local suppliers, with seasonal orchard produce on every dish and our Buy West Eat Best partnership (requiring at least 70% of menu items to be locally grown) cements our Core ethos.

Waste diversion
Waste apple pulp is composted and used as natural fertiliser for the orchard so no nasty nitrates are added.

Orchard Production
As spray-free as possible, we combine biodynamic principles throughout our orchards, so our apples are THE tastiest (just bite into one of our Pink Lady apples and you’ll get the drift). These in turn make the most delectable cider. It’s a win-win for us and for you!

And, we’re always looking for new ways of doing things…
